D-Link Router Configuration: Made Easy Like Never Before!
D-link is one of the most popular brands when it comes to routers. If you own one such D-link router and are confused on how to go up with its configuration, you have come to the right place! We break down an easy d-link router setup guide to help you go on with the process smoothly.
Getting started with D-link router setup
D-Link router has a convenient interface that makes it easy for even a first time user to go about with configuration. Firstly, you will need to connect your router to the modem followed by connecting it to a computer connected to the network. The basic steps will remain same involving a slight change based upon the network connection used by the user.
Connecting Router with Modem
Step 1: There will be an adapter enclosed within your router package. Connect it with the router while connecting the adapter to the wall switch for power outlet.
Step 2: Now, you need to connect the Ethernet cable to the router’s WAN port. Generally, its yellow in colour but in models like D-Link 524 and 624, it is made black.
Step 3: Once Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN port of the router, wait for the lights to come on.
Connecting Computer to the Router
To Establish a Wired Connection,
Firstly look for the LAN ports in your computer and connect it to the LAN port of your router. Any LAN port can be used from the router leaving the WAN port which is connected to the modem.
To Establish a Wireless Connection,
- Go to Network icon to determine available networks. Now you need to click on your router’s network. Your user manual will have the name of default router’s network which is generally d-link followed by a precise combination of digits or characters.
- Once you click the router’s network, you will be prompted to enter the password. Find it from the configuration card or manual. Now click connect and you are successfully connected to the network.
Configuring theD-Link Router
Step 1: Once the connection is established, open the web browser from your computer. Now type the 192.168.1.254 IP address of the router (written in user manual or at the back of router) in the address URL.
Step 2: Enter the default username and password of your router. Generally, the username is “admin” and password is left blank. You can find the exact combination from your user manual or from your router’s model number.
Step 3: Start the setup wizard to begin router’s configuration. Press Run followed by next. Make sure to check the type of internet connection you are on.
Step 4:Now enter the new username and password for your wireless network. Make sure to keep your password strong.
Step 5: To save the router configuration, select save and then restart the screen. This will make the router to reboot with its all three lights on (WAN, Power and Internet).
